Damanhur is a “Federation of Communities” at the foot of the Alps in northern Italy. Since the 1970’s they have been building an alternative culture, passionately incorporating esoteric research, complex social innovation, and beautiful art works into all aspects of life. I visited on invitation from a young Damanhurian whom I met at the GEN+20 Summit, skill-trading for room and board in one of the oldest family houses of the sprawling ecovillage. My experience was at Damanhur was multi-layered, expectedly Weird, and sometimes surprisingly mundane.
